The Grundy Center boy’s golf team won the nine-team Aplington-Parkersburg Invite Monday, April 21st at Aplington. The Spartans toped Class 1A perennial power Mason City Newman 163-166 on a cool and windy day. Newman dealt Grundy Center their only loss last season at the A-P Invite by one stroke. Dike-New Hartford finished third at 172. Junior Michael Henely led the Spartan scoring attack with a round 40. Henely finished tied for runner-up medalist honors, but lost a card back to Trevor Sharp of BCL-UW. Kyle Burmeir from Newman earned medalist honors with a 39. Juniors Grant Stevens, Taylor Schupbach, and Bobby Ayers all recorded rounds of 41 to round out the team scoring. Sophomores Zach Swalley and David Frisch shot 42 and 44 respectively. Head Coach Dennis Dirks said, “It was a strong showing of our team depth. Owning five of the low ten individual scores of the tournament was the difference.” Varsity Results:
