Basketball
I first started playing basketball when I was in 4th grade. Before that it was just pick up games. In 4th grade however, I played on an AAU team. This went on until 7th grade when jr. high started. I played the post position up to that point. But I moved to guard and that is what I am currently. We had a pretty some pretty successful years during jr. high with Mr. Dirks and Mr. Lebo as our coaches. My freshman year was the same only we had Coach Teck. He was a student teacher at UNI. We played well that year. The varsity team made it to state and placed 4th. The summer led to basketball camps and more basketball camps. My sophmore year came around and basketball was here before you know it. I was on varsity and the season was underway. Our first few games were kind of rough then we got things together for a little while. Grant Stevens broke his finger and was out. Michael Henley had played basketball in the past but was in a car accident so he was temperarily out. We started winning a few games, but then the luck started to fade. Our winning streak soon turned to a losing streak and that lasted for a while. Grant came back and gave us a slight lift. But Thomas Morey went through a rough time in his life so he gave baseketball a break midway through the season. He would return to the spartan lineup later in the year. Michael Dorthey and Dylan Ross chose to quit the team. Right before tournaments started, we started winning again. This was a good sign. Michael came back and played with us and we were on a role. Our district game was against BCLUW and they beat us sadly. There is always next year though. When talking to our team they concluded that we are going to work very hard over the summer and with a young sophomore next year named Elliot McDowell and several juniors including the albers twins being lead by seniors Kasey Lyons and Taylor Schupbach there should be a very good year ahead of us. To close the season notes: Kasey Lyons and Taylor Schupbach made 2nd team all conference, and Zach Swalley was honorable mention.
The girls made it to the state tournament this year. Congratulations!! The team was led by Nicole Vanderpool. They beat Dever in substate to advance. It was a very close and exciting game capped off by the winning 3 pointer by Junior Katie. I will let you know how the girls are going to do, and hopefully think of a better idea than this so it isn't so gay. The new stuff for the boys season this year is on a different link.

Lady Spartans In The Barn Whoop Whoop
Grundy Center Lady Spartans beat Mid-Prarie and Sioux Center to advance to the state championship. The team they were facing was the very good Underwood team. They the game started off with Underwood taking the lead, They had commanding control over us for the first quarter. But then the lady spartans came back. The game came down to the wire, and the crowd was going wild. With a few seconds to go, Chelsea Luring has the ball, we are down by three, the clock ticks down to the final seconds and Chelsea lets one fly, but it barely makes it to the free throw line, SHE WAS FOULED!!! With a chance for 3 shots to tie the game and send it into overtime. Underwood has 4 players with 4 fouls already. We could win. WAIT WAIT, back that up a second. NO FOUL???? the crowd erupted in a choras of boos, other people were in shock, they could hear the resounding slap of skin on skin from 2 stories up in the balcony. Meanwhile on the Underwood side, the fans were going nuts. they had just won a state championship. Grundy Center was in an uproar, but realizing it would get them nowhere, they gave in. After all the girls would go undefated and win the 'ship next year. On a more positive note, the girls recieved the sportsmanship award so in the end we got 2 trophy's and they only got 1. Grundy wins again. hahaha.Roster and Record
